This week we learned about how to make a dark room and how to process photos with emulsion and how to use apparatuses. Then we actually made a dark room! With died lights hanging from the celling, tables moved to make it safer to move around when the lights are off, boxes so the prints wont be exposed to light ruining the photo, learning about diffrent chemicals were gonna be using to make the prints, making a system so we can open the door when we are doing prints. Also I was only there for Monday and Tuesday before I got sick and was out for 3 days. Then we started reading mice and men but since i've already read that book I am reading cannon row by the same author. We also had to do 5 writing pieces talking about different aspects like light, composition, historical, emotional, social, genders, personal, political etc of a photo taken by Dorothea Lange a photographer who changed the way people who were higher up saw the way the poor lived. HumanitiesEmotion This photo is literally shedding light on the sadness that is happening at the time. How people are just sad that they have to leave their homes and work in the fields for little money. But kids at the time also felt probably felt very lonely, with their parents working on the farm and them having to stay home or even them working on the farms which can also be lonely. Most of the time as well the oldest of the kids were left to take care of there siblings when their parents worked. She just seems tired of being in this situation of consent struggle. Moving around when the season changes and maybe in her old life she had friends and now she can never see them again. Light The light in this photo I feel is portrayed in a very literal way because it’s showing that she is shedding light on the subject most are naive to. It’s also a great example of harsh lighting. On top of that the way the harsh light hits at a strong angle instead of straight up and down makes this photo that more striking. Also the fact that she is on the darker side of the lighting makes it that much more dramatic and makes the emotion sadness that much more apparent. Also since back then they didn’t have the nice lighting we have today it’s an awesome use of lighting Cannery RowI just started reading my book today and so far it's kinda slow and confusing to me. The Main character kinda seems like he's tired and doesn't care for much. Like instead of heckling his tenants for the rent money he recognizes that they buy food from is store with the little bit of money they have. He just seems to have let go a lot in his life and is just now going with the flow. I am interested in getting to know his pass. ChemistryMy role in making the dark room was paper person which means I taped up some boxes so the light wouldn't be exposed to light. Apparatuses help us with emulsions because we have melt the jello emulsion with out it getting wet in the water, they also hold a trematode because we have to make sure the water doesn't boil.
